After nearly ten years of on-the-job training and studying both commercial and residential architecture across the southeast, Natalie established her firm, Natalie Sharkey Design in November of 2015.

Natalie started her career at a commercial Architecture firm in Montgomery, Alabama. Here she moved from an entry level Draftsman position to Production Manager for the firm. During her time at this firm, Natalie learned the importance of working in a group environment, which was key in the development of her organizational skills. While working at this firm, Natalie was involved in numerous commercial projects ranging from small renovations to 500,000 square foot new construction projects. In addition to developing and implementing the firm's drawing design standards, drawing construction documents, attending meetings with clients and consultants, her time spent at this firm was often focused on learning practical and cost-effective building methods and details. This would be experience that would come in handy consistently throughout her work in the future.

In December of 2011, Natalie began working as a Project Manager/Coordinator for an Architecture firm of the Emerald Coast of Florida. During her time there, Natalie was able to frequently apply the common-sense detailing and practical building methods she learned during her time in the commercial field in Montgomery. The ability to think outside of the typical "residential design box" turned out to be a skill she was able to use in many instances. Natalie spent much of her time in this position focusing on honing and developing her residential design skills and point-of-view. Natalie's position included seeing a project through from first pen stroke of the Schematic Design and Design Development phases, to Construction Documents, Interior Design, all the way to completion of construction. She was also able to work closely with clients and consultants, alike, to ensure that all involved parties were aware of each stage of the project and all parties were satisfied with the nature of the work.

Through Natalie's experience working for Architects and Designers across the country, she has explored a wide range of design styles from neoclassical to modern, especially along the 30A corridor, where she continues to work most frequently. This experience allows her to have the ability to work in Planned Communities with strong design aesthetics while still allowing the design to have its own personal style and statement. While she most adores the lines of mid-century modern design, she approaches each project individually, working with the client and the context of the project to design spaces optimally for form, function, and budget.

Natalie's on-the-job training has given her the ability to learn through experience which, some would say, is invaluable. She has a thirst for knowledge regarding all aspects of the design and construction process, truly enjoys her work, and feels fortunate that she has been able to pursue Residential Design as a career.
